Cycling, party for two at Piva Junior Day in Col San Martino: Andreaus (students) and Dal Cappello (juniors) win
The Piva Junior Day in Col San Martino proved to be a real success, a day entirely dedicated to the youth categories and budding champions who in a few years could be back in the spotlight on the same roads at the prestigious Trofeo Piva.
Protagonists today, Sunday, July 18, 2021, were the young promises of two-wheel pedaling in the double the 62nd edition, organized by the Col San Martino cycling association led by President Mario De Rosso, starting in the morning with the road cycling race for the cadet category valid as the 15th Gran Premio Pro Loco Col San Martino.
Arms up in Via Giarentine in Col San Martino, after the 73 kilometers unwound between Colbertaldo, Follo, Soprapiana and Guia, the Trentino of Borgo Valsugana Elia Andreaus (Asd Veloce Club Borgo), class 2006, faster than breakaway companion Lorenzo Mottes (Us. Montecorona) forced to settle for second place. Adjusting the sprint of the group for third place was Thomas Capra (Asd Veloce Club Borgo).
Spectacle along the roads of a hilly territory unique in the world and recognized as a Unesco World Heritage Site also in the afternoon with the unprecedented race reserved for the junior category valid as the first Gran Premio Andreola with the first five laps on the same route as the students before the grand finale with the last three laps on the Gran Premio della montagna of Combai.
Party in Col San Martino for the Veronese Omar Dal Cappello (Autozai Petrucci Contri), able to regulate in a two-man sprint the Mexican Isaac Del Toro Romero (Monex Mtb Pro Cycling Team). Chasing the leading pair to gain the third step of the podium was Matteo Sperandio (San Vendemiano Cycling Team).
Among the guests present at the Piva Junior Cup were Fci regional president Sandro Cecchin, regional councilor Sonia Brescancin, Farra di Soligo mayor Mattia Perencin, city councilor Massimo Tognon, technical commentator and former pro Silvio Martinello and Fci Veneto and national veteran Raffaele Carlesso.
The awards were held at the Andreola winery in Col San Martino in the presence of owners Nazareno and Stefano Pola. Also with them were Raffaele Mazzucco of the Sogno Veneto winery and two big names in cycling: Giovanni Battaglin and Guido De Rosso.
The Ac Col San Martino expresses special thanks to the provincial and regional Fci committees for their support, with kudos to provincial Fci vice-president Gianluca Negro for his active cooperation in the organization. Not forgetting all the sponsors, volunteers and to all the associations that collaborated on Piva Junior Day.
